COLLIN COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION

SOLO/SMALL FIRM SECTION MEETING

MAY 23, NOON

SPEAKER: JAMES CREEDON

TOPIC: IOLTA 101, OR MONEY STUFF FOR LAW PEOPLE

In this CLE, we will discuss the meaning and mechanisms behind IOLTA accounting to make certain that every attendee understands and can abide by their ethical duties. This is a ground-up course requiring no background knowledge, and it will be equally valuable for those starting a new law practice and those looking to audit their current procedures. Specific topics include engagement letter requirements, payment intake, the timing of fund transfers from IOLTA accounts, the role of retainers, maintaining proper IOLTA fund accountability, and the critical steps of disengaging clients. This CLE is entirely focused on one of the most ethically-fraught duties a practicing attorney takes on.

LOCATION: Kelly's Kraft Tavern (3191 Preston Road, Frisco)
